2015 Pinot Grigio
San Francisco Chronicle Wine Comptetition - GOLD MEDAL WINNER
Vineyards: 100% Napa Valley
Blend Composition: 100% Pinot Grigio
Alcohol: 14.5% by volume
Production: 925 cases
The 2015 growing season started early. As California entered its fourth year of drought, we were fortunate to receive spring rains sufficient to fill our reservoir and saturate the soil. Consistent sun and warmth throughout the growing season led to an early crop of high-quality grapes.
The fruit for this wine was grown in the Oak Knoll District, just north of the city of Napa, where the temperatures are notably cooler than at our Estate St. Helena Vineyard. The moderate weather helps heighten the rich aromatics of Pinot Grigio, while retaining a bright acidity that provides a clean and refreshing finish.
The 2015 Pinot Grigio is a limpid pale straw color. Its pleasing aromas include jasmine, honeysuckle, white peach and Asian pear. On the palate, the wine is crisp, vibrant, and lively, with a clean refreshing finish. The wine is saturated with flavors, offering lemongrass, grapefruit essence, stone fruit and Mandarin orange with a flinty character.
This wine will pair beautifully with prosciutto and melon, cracked Dungeness crab, grilled halibut, or a pasta primavera with peas, fava beans and asparagus.
