Aglianico (all-yee-on-ee-co) is a dark-skinned Italian variety grown in the Campania region around Naples. It produces a dark ruby wine with powerful aromas and flavors and significant tannin. There are few acres planted in California and much of it comes to Benessere. Aged in new and seasoned barrels for 18 to 20 months before bottling.
This is only our third bottling since 2002. Always a component of our best wines, it is dark, supple, ripe and rich, back by popular demand. Vineyard source: Benessere Vineyards, estate, St. Helena appellation.
Sagrantino is a dark-skinned varietal originated in the Montefalco region of Umbria, Italy. There are only 5 acres of Sagrantino planted in California, 20% are from our half acre grown at Benessere. We are fortunate to produce 100 to 150 cases annually, for club selections.
