The 2019 growing season was a roller coaster that kept us on our toes, but resulted in beautiful wines. Spring precipitation persisted through bloom and berry set, but the weather had little impact on our yields. As summer progressed, our typical heat spikes failed to appear, allowing berry flavors to develop slowly, and leading to one of our longest harvests on record. We picked at optimal ripeness and are thrilled with our young wines.
The fruit for this wine was grown in the Oak Knoll District, just north of the city of Napa, where the temperatures are notably cooler than at our Estate St. Helena Vineyard. The moderate weather helps heighten the rich aromatics of Pinot Grigio, while retaining a bright acidity that provides a clean and refreshing finish.
This vivacious wine positively hums with intensity. Though easy to sip, you might do a double take at all the flavors emerging from the glass. A full spectrum of aromas from citrus to flowers to stone fruit and tropical fruit resolve to Meyer lemon and tangerine, star jasmine, apricot and white peach, with a hint of passionfruit on the palate. A hint of fresh-baked biscuit gives way to a long, refreshing finish.
Enjoy with Pappardelle with stickers, peas, and prosciutto, Lemony white beans with anchovy and parmesan, and Fricco.
