The 2020 growing season began with a perfect amount of rainfall in the late winter and spring to get the vines off to a healthy start as they emerged from dormancy. Perfect conditions continued as spring eased into summer, with moderate temperatures allowing for healthy shoot and berry development. As we neared the start of the harvest season; however, disaster struck with two fires in Napa Valley. We were fortunate to have brought in the grapes for our Pinot Grigio and Rosato di Sangiovese before they were affected. Unfortunately, we were not able to bring the rest of our Harvest in time so we have decided not to make any red wines from the 2020 vintage.
The fruit for this wine was grown in the Oak Knoll District, just north of the city of Napa, where the temperatures are notably cooler than at our Estate St. Helena Vineyard. The moderate weather helps heighten the rich aromatics of Pinot Grigio, while retaining a bright acidity that provides a clean and refreshing finish.
Beguiling aromas of jasmine, honeysuckle, mandarin orange, and white peach lead to a richly textured, beautiful palate. This wine is complex and layered, but nevertheless easy to enjoy on a warm summer day. Drink now for freshness and vibrancy. With time this wine will take on hints of caramel and honey. Best 2021-2023
Enjoy with a medley of fresh berries and melon, with prosciutto or pancetta to add a little tang. Grilled sausage with bell pepper and onion would also be lovely, or try with a lemon tart.
