The 2020 growing season began with a perfect amount of rainfall in the late winter and spring to get the vines off to a healthy start as they emerged from dormancy. Perfect conditions continued as spring eased into summer, with moderate temperatures allowing for healthy shoot and berry development. As we neared the start of the harvest season; however, disaster struck with two fires in Napa Valley. We were fortunate to have brought in the grapes for our Pinot Grigio and Rosato di Sangiovese before they were affected. Unfortunately, we were not able to bring in the rest of our Harvest in time, so we have decided not to make any red wines from the 2020 vintage.
We pick the Sangiovese for our Rosato about two weeks before we pick from the same vineyard block for our red wine, capturing brighter fruit flavors and a lively character. We gently destemmed and crushed the berries before sending to the press, where a long, gentle pressing cycle extracted beautiful juice. We fermented the wine slowly at cool temperatures to maintain the brilliant aromatics.
With its captivating color and enticing aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and rose petal, our Rosato is difficult to resist. On the palate it reveals a delightful complexity and satisfying texture. It is refreshing but also complex.
Enjoy with a salad of baked fig and goat cheese over radicchio, roasted carrots and chickpeas, or grilled chicken kabobs.
