The 2021 growing season was blessed by late winter rains that replenished our soil moisture as the vines emerged from dormancy. A cold spring led to a slower start for the vines, but we avoided any frost danger. Summer growing conditions were exceptional, with consistent weather and blue skies ushering in a Goldilocks summer that was not too hot and not too cold. We are thrilled with the quality of the grapes from the outstanding 2021 vintage.
We pick the Sangiovese for our Rosato about two weeks before we pick from the same vineyard block for our red wine, capturing brighter fruit flavors and a lively character. We gently destemmed and crushed the berries before sending to the press, where a long, gentle pressing cycle extracted beautiful juice. We fermented the wine slowly at cool temperatures to maintain the brilliant aromatics.
This wine entices with scents of watermelon, blood orange, strawberry, and guava, with just a hint of rich custard in the mix. These flavors carry through on the palate. The wine shows a rich texture, great length, and dense concentration, but it is nevertheless sprightly and refreshing in the glass.
Enjoy with a salad of pomegranate, walnut, strawberry and feta over spinach or arugula, shrimp fra diavolo pizza, or Cambozola cheese.
